anak-anak. Karena seperti yang kita tahu, banyak sekali pengguna anak-anak yang
menggunakan YouTube baik di rumah maupun di warnet dimana di warnet sangat

Will YouTube Do This?
YouTube is a free social media platform that allows
users to upload and watch any kind of videos. Nowadays, YouTube becomes the
most-watched broadcast site on the internet since it lets various videos to be
shared like comedy, how-to, music, and even nudity content. Even though the
viewers are not always adult but there are plentiful number of children. With
the result that juvenile may be exposed by the negative effects from nudity, sex,
violence, and heresy. Therefore, YouTube should apply the content filter to prevent
bad impacts for kids.
Firstly, people do not need to make an account to
watch videos on YouTube. It makes the users of children age is countless.
Whereas, a lot of content on YouTube contains indecent things since it allows
various videos to be published without filtering. In 2017, YouTube was
protested for showing inappropriate videos targeted at children and gained
million of views. While in December 2018, The
Times discovered more than 100 cases which children were exploited for
implicit behavior.
Secondly, there are many hoax news, heresies,
defamations, and conspiracy theories that may induce underage viewers to trust
them. According to The Wall Street
Journal, YouTube recommends conspiracy theories, partisan viewpoints, and
misleading materials to every visitor. Besides, the thumbnail of those videos
are always interesting to be clicked. As we know, children are easily
influenced by something new and attractive. Thus, it is feared that this will
have negative effects for the generation such as deception, division, and
hatred.
Thirdly, violent contents such as suicide, murder, criminal,
and terrorism are everywhere. In January 2018, Logan Paul uploaded a video
which contained a body of suicide in the Aokigahara forest. That is just one
example of a controversial video that we can find more on the site. Those
materials are dangerous for kids since they may follow it. Meanwhile, a study
shows that children will only follow the bad things they see rather than the
good things.
From those things that can be considered, YouTube
should apply filter when someone wants to upload a video. The penetration is not
only the age but also the content. It means YouTube should identify the video
before being released. It is because YouTube has a large audience especially
children or underage users. I believe YouTube will be a better spot if it is
implemented.
